Abstract

ALLIYATASYA NUR AZIZAH, 1911200012 English Education Study Program, the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Widya Dharma University, Klaten, 2023. Thesis. IMPROVING WRITING ABILITY OF THE TENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMK NEGERI 4 KLATEN THROUGH PICTURE SERIES IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2022/2023. This study has a purpose to prove whether picture series media can improve writing skill of the tenth grade students of SMK Negeri 4 Klaten in Academic Year 2022/2023. This study was categorized into Classroom Action Research (CAR). The object of this research are the English teacher and the tenth grade students of Pemasaran 1. In this research, the writer uses qualitative and quantitative method. The qualitative data were gotten through observation, interview, and documentation, whereas, the quantitative data were gotten from the test. The descriptive qualitative was used to analyze the mean of the result. The writer conducted research from pre-cycle, cycle 1, and cycle 2. From the observation results, it can be seen that students are more interested and active in the learning and teaching process when learning uses aids such as picture series media. And from the results of the interviews, the teacher can add media in the learning and teaching process for subsequent learning and the students feel helped by the picture series media to add insight in writing. The data indicates there is improvement of students’ achievement in writing skill from pre-cycle, to cycle 1 and to cycle 2. The mean of cycle 1 (65.9) is higher than that in pre-cycle (60.3) and the mean of cycle 2 (76.2) is higher than that of cycle 1. From the mean score result, it can be concluded that the picture series media can improve the students’ writing skill of the tenth grade students of SMK Negeri 4 Klaten in Academic Year of 2022/2023.
