Abstract
RIRIN ALAM KUSUMA DEWI, 1911200014. English Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, University of Widya Dharma Klaten. 2023. Undergraduate Thesis: The Translation Analysis of Preposition “By” in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. The aim of this study is to find out the variations in the translation of the preposition "by" in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe in the target language and to find out the translation method used by the translator in translating the preposition "by" in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. The data in this study were collected using a qualitative method from sentences containing the preposition "by" found in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. The results obtained after analyzing the preposition "by" in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe show that the translator uses 15 variations of the preposition "by" in the target language as follows: saat itu, sekarang, oleh, dengan, saat, didekat, di sisi, lewat, ketika, mencari jalan, menusuk lehernya, menjamu, ya ampun, kali ini, and untranslated. The translators translated the preposition “by” in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe using three translation methods, namely 11 word-for-word translation data, 10 literal translation data, and 12 free translation data.
