Abstract

WARSINI. NO. : 15PSC1740. Language Education Study Program, Pascasarjana pragrame. Widya Dharma University Klaten, 2010. Thesis: Improving The Students’ Reading Skill by Using Cooperative Jigsaw and Giving Star Mark in the Fifth Year Students of SD Negeri 2 Ceporan UPTD Gantiwarno Klaten 2017. The writer wants to answer the problems: 1) “How is the teaching and learning process in reading skill by using cooperative jigsaw and giving star mark in the fifth year students of SD Negeri 2 Ceporan UPTD Gantiwarno Klaten?” 2) “By cooperative jigsaw and giving star mark is there any improvement of the Students’ reading skill in the fifth year students of SD Negeri 2 Ceporan UPTD Gantiwarno Klaten?” The aims of this observation in this thesis are 1) To know the teaching and learning process in reading skill by using cooperative jigsaw and giving star mark in the fifth year students of SD Negeri 2 Ceporan UPTD Gantiwarno Klaten, 2) To know the improvement of reading ability by using cooperative jigsaw and giving star mark in the fifth year students of SD Negeri 2 Ceporan UPTD Gantiwarno Klaten. Classroom action research is applied by cyclic action consisting four steps, they are: planning, action, observation, and reflection. It is the way of collecting the data based on the purpose of increasing accuracy through multi observation. Action research is a study which is done in cyclic system from the various teaching activities. The subject of this research is the students in the fifth year students of SD Negeri 2 Ceporan UPTD Gantiwarno Klaten. The writer uses an observation interview, and test for the technique of collecting the data. In the analysis of data the writer used descriptive qualitative and is represented by the reflection of the cycles of the research. Action research is a study which is done in cycle system from the various learning teaching activities. After analyzing the data taken from the observation of the teaching and learning reading of the fifth year students, based on the data analysis, the results of the research are: 1) Teaching and learning reading by using cooperative jigsaw and giving star mark in the fifth year students of SD Negeri 2 Ceporan UPTD Gantiwarno Klaten can be said that is improve. It can be looked in cycle 1 the students activity in learning process is 58,69%, in cycle 2 is 69,13%, and in cycle 3 is 76,05%. 2) Using cooperative jigsaw and giving star mark in the fifth year students of SD Negeri 2 Ceporan UPTD Gantiwarno Klaten in teaching and learning process can improve the students ability in reading. It can be looked from the mark of students ability in reading in cycle 1 is 65,65, with the classical degree of completeness 47,82%. In cycle 2, the mark of students ability in reading is 69,26 with the classical degree of completeness 69,56%. In cycle 3, the mark of students ability in reading is 77,17, with the classical degree of completeness 86,95%.
