Abstract
Samino, NIM 15PSC01750. The Effectiveness of Project Based Learning Technique in Teaching Writing viewed from the Students’ Motivation at XI Grade of MAN Karanganom Klaten in the Academic Year 2016/2017. Thesis. Language Education Programme, Graduate Programme, Widya Dharma University Klaten, 2017. This research is aimed to find out : 1) the effectiveness of project based learning technique in teaching writing ; 2) whether the students with high motivation have better in writing skill than those who have low motivation ; 3) the interaction between project based learning technique and levels of motivation in teaching writing of grade XI of MAN Karanganom Klaten in the academic year of 2016/2017. The research applied an experimental study. The research was done in MAN Karanganom Klaten. The population was the eleventh grade of MAN Karanganom Klaten in the academic year 2016/2017 totally consisting 172 students. The sample of the research were 52 students ; 26 students in the experimental class (XI IPA 1) and 26 students were in the control class (XI IPA 2) using random sampling technique. The students in experimental class were taught by using project based learning technique and the students in control class were taught by using peer tutoring method. To collect the data, pretest and posttest were employed. Those were writing test to find out the scores of students’ writing skill. Students in each class were categorized into two groups ; students having high and low motivation. The data obtained were analyzed using ANOVA 2 x 2. The result of the data analysis shows that ; 1) project based learning technique is more effective than peer tutoring method to teach writing, it was pro ven by p 0,007 lower than 0,05. If sig < 0,05 the result is significant difference ; 2) the students who have high motivation got better score than those who have low motivation in writing skill, it was proved that the means score of high motivation is 80,87 and low motivation is 77,79. So the result is significant proved ; 3) there is interaction between project based learning technique and students’ motivation in teaching writing, it was proved that Fo is higher than Ft (Fo = 3,293 > Ft = 2,47). So the result is significant difference. The conclusion of the research as follows : 1) project based learning technique is more effective than peer tutoring method ; 2) students who have high motivation got better score than those who have low motivation in writing skill ; 3) there is an interaction between project based learning technique and students’ motivation in learning writing. Some recommendations can be considered such as : 1) the teachers should give more opportunities to practice the project based learning technique ; 2) the students should be more active in teaching learning activities. By considering the recommendations, it is hoped that any deviation of the next research can be minimized.
