Abstract
Ani Sartika Sari, NIM 15PSC01718. The Effectiveness of Animated Video to Teach Reading Comprehension Viewed from the Students’ Reading Interest (An Experimental Research of the Eighth Grade Students at MTs Negeri Prambanan in Academic Year of 2016/2017). Thesis. Language Education Study Programme, Graduate Programme, Widya Dharma University Klaten, 2017. The objectives of the research are to know whether: (1) animated video is more effective than textbook in teaching the eighth grade students’ reading comprehension of descriptive text of MTs Negeri Prambanan in academic year of 2016/2017; (2) the eighth grade students of MTs Negeri Prambanan in the Academic Year of 2016/2017, with high reading interest have better reading comprehension than those with low reading interest; (3) there is an interaction between teaching media and students’ reading interest in teaching the eighth grade students’ reading comprehension of descriptive text of MTs Negeri Prambanan in the Academic Year of 2016/2017. Related to the objective of the research, the reseacher used experimental research. The design in this research is 2x2 factorial design. The research was conducted in July up to December 2016. The population of this research is the eighth grade students of MTs Negeri Prambanan in academic year of 2016/2017. From the whole population, two classes were taken as the sample. The samples were 8B class as experimental group and 8C as control group. The sampling technique used was cluster random sampling. In collecting the data, the reseacher used test and questionnaire. In analyzing the data, the reseacher used ANOVA or analysis of variance. Based on the result of data analysis, the research findings are: (1) animated video is more effective than textbook in teaching the eighth grade students’ reading comprehension of descriptive text of MTs Negeri Prambanan in academic year of 2016/2017; (2) reading comprehension of the eighth students of MTs Negeri Prambanan in academic year of 2016/2017 having high reading interest have better than those having low reading interest; (3) There is an interaction between teaching media and students’ reading interest in teaching the eighth grade students’ reading comprehension of descriptive text of MTs Negeri Prambanan in the Academic Year of 2016/2017. Based on these research findings, it can be concluded that animated video is effective reading comprehension of descriptive text of MTs Negeri Prambanan in academic year of 2016/2017.
