Abstract
Yuyun Ambarwanto. NIM: 12PSC01487. The Graduate Program Magister in Language Education, Graduate Program, Widya Dharma University, Klaten, 2014. Thesis Title: “Improving The Ability to Write Narrative Text Through Cooperative Learning Strategy (Clasroom Action Research in Grade VA of State Primary School 2 Ngadirojo, Kabupaten Wonogiri Academic Year 2013/2014)”. The aims of this research to improve: (1) the quality of narration writing learning process of the students in Grade VA of State Primary School 2 Ngadirojo, (2) the results of narration writing ability of the students following the writing learning with cooperative learning strategy, and (3) knowing the strengths and the weaknesses of using cooperative learning strategy in improving the students writing ability of narrative text in Grade VA of State Primary School 2 Ngadirojo. This research is a classroom action research aimed at solving the problems in the learning through four cycles. Each cycle covered (1) planning, (2) action,(3) observation, and (4) reflection. The subjects of the research were 30 consisting of 14 male and 16 male students in Grade VA of State Primary School 2 Ngadirojo. Its data were gathered through: (1) observation, (2) in-depth interview, (3) content analysis (document analysis), (4) questionnaire of writing interest and group process, and (5) test of narration writing skill. The data were validated through data source and data gathering method triangulations. The data were then analyzed by means of qualitative and quantitative techniques of analysis. The former used the comparative descriptive technique, whereas the latter used the descriptive statistic one. The results of the research are as follows: This Classroom Action Research has implemented for two cycles and reach a significant improvement. The application of cooperative learning strategy apparently is able to improve the students’ writing ability as indicated by the increased number of the students completing their writing subject matter from Cycle I through Cycle II. Besides, the average scores of their narration writing also increase from Cycle I through Cycle II. In Cycle I, the number of students completing their writing subject matter is 25 (83.33 %), and their average scores are 77.47. In Cycle II, the number of students completing their writing subject matter is 30 (100 %), and their average scores are 79.87, this result is somewhat satisfactory compared to the first and the second cycles. From this action research, it can be concluded that the result of the research was succeessful.
