Abstract
Sukiswati, 14PSC01601. “The Correlation of Mastery of Vocabulary and Reading Interest with Speaking Skills Class XI student of SMK Negeri 3 Purworejo Year 2016-2017”. Thesis. Graduate Program of Widya Dharma University, Klaten, 2016. The research problems are: (1) Is there any correlation of mastery of vocabulary with speaking skills class XI student of SMK Negeri 3 Purworejo ?; (2) Is there any correlation of interest of reading with speaking skills class XI student of SMK Negeri 3 Purworejo?; (3) Is there any correlations of mastery of vocabulary and interest of reading together with speaking skills class XI student of SMK Negeri 3 Purworejo? This type of research is quantitative research with survey method. The research sample is a class XI student of SMK 3 Purworejo totaling 52 students. The sampling technique using proportional random sampling. Techniques of collecting data mastery of vocabulary and speaking skills using tests and questionnaires using to collect data of reading interest. Data were analyzed using correlation and linear regression analysis. Results of research are: (1) Mastery of students vocabulary (X1) has a correlation with speaking skills (Y) as evidenced from the correlation coefficient (r) of 0.820. Determinant coefficient of R2 x 100% = 0,762 x 100% = 76,2%. Regression coefficient of 0.398 and uji t = 10,125 with a significance of 0.000 < 0.05. Meaning, if the higher-level mastery of vocabulary will lead to higher levels of students' speaking skills. If the level of the lower vocabulary will cause the lower the level of students' speaking skills; (2) Reading interest (X2) has a correlation with on speaking skills (Y) as evidenced from the correlation coefficient (r) of 0.393. Determinant coefficient of R2 x 100% = 0,154 x 100% = 15,4%. Regression coefficient of 0,365 and uji t = 3,020 with a significance of 0.004 < 0.05. = 0,296. Meaning, if the higher level of reading interest will cause the higher the students' speaking skills. If the lower level of reading interest will cause the lower the level of students' speaking skills; (3) The reading interest and vocabulary together have a positive influence on speaking skills with coefficient F-test = 83.577 and significance of 0.000 < 0.05. The coefficient determinant or Adjusted R Square (R2) = 0.764. Means, the influence of the independent variable (reading and vocabulary) of the dependent variable (speaking skills) of 0.764 x 100% = 76.4%, so for the remaining 23.6% is influenced by other variables or factors that were not studied. Conclusions of research are: (1) Mastery of vocabulary students has a correlation with speaking skills; (2) Reading interest has a correlation with on speaking skills; (3) Reading interest and vocabulary together have a positive influence on speaking skills.
