Abstract
Sri Purwani, NIM.14 PSC 01660. “The Teaching and Learning Reading Comprehension of a Text (A Case Study on the fifth year students of Public Secondary School 1 Jungkare, Karanganom Regency, second Semester Academic Year 2015/2016)”. Thesis. Language Education Study Program, Graduate Program, Widya Dharma University Klaten. The problem of the study are: 1) To observe the teaching and learning process of finding the main idea of a text for the in fifth year students of Public Secondary School 1 Jungkare, Karanganom Regency, second Semester Academic Year 2015/2016). 2) To find out its influencing factors why the above teaching and learning process is done in such a ways. The method of study is qualitative yet descriptive, with an approach of case study on finding the main idea of a text for the fifth year (students of Public Secondary School 1 Jungkare, Karanganom Regency, second Semester Academic Year 2015/2016). Statement of data identity the data is taken as a result of observation and video-shooting. Those recorded data are then textualized in multi-column in the from of tread networking. A network has of one theme. Then, it will change into data- identification. There are 45 data-identification used as the object of this research. Those data are then to be abstracted into 40 data. Further, the whole 40 data- identification are discussed. Related aspects for the discussion are the teacher, student, learning material, teaching method, learning media, and the form of evaluation. The rest of 5 data-identification are not used because the are not related to learning strategy used by the teacher. Based on the discussion of the data, the following are the finding: 1) During the teaching and learning process of reading comprehension of a text for the fifth year students of Public Secondary School 1 Jungkare, Karanganom Regency, second Semester Academic Year 2015/2016, the teacher did the apperception. 2) The teacher delivered the material how to find the main idea from text, 3) The teacher applied tutorial method, question and answer, assignment, and class-discussion. 4) The teacher used a blackboard as a teaching tool. 5) The teacher did the evaluation. 6) Student did all the instructions, answering teacher’s questions, paying attention when a friend of them read the text, participated in class-discussion and did the evaluation provided by the teacher. The influencing factors of the above finding are: 1) The apperception was used to know students’ preliminary ability. 2) The teacher explained the needed material so that students would learn how to comprehend a text easily. 3) Various method were applied by the teacher to make him easier in delivering the learning material. 4) The teacher used the blackboard because he forgot to take the needed pattern-diagran in the classroom. 5) The evaluation was objected to know students’ absorption towards the given material. 6) Students did all the teacher’s instruction because the really want to learn and tried to fulfil the criteria of standard-completion, even on the above of it.
