Abstract

SITI MUAJIJAH, 0911202464, English Education Study Program, The Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Widya Dharma University, Klaten 2015. Thesis: “A Descriptive Study on the Mastery of Reading of the Seventh Year Students of MTs Miftahul Ulum Ngawen, Blora in Academic Year 2014/2015”. This study is intended to answer the question which becomes the problem of this study: How is the mastery of reading of the seventh year students of MTs Miftahul Ulum Ngawen, Blora in academic year 2014/2015? The aim of the study is to describe of the mastery of reading of the seventh year students of MTs Miftahul Ulum Ngawen, Blora in academic year 2014/2015. To answer the problem above, the writer conducted a research in order to get the data. The writer carried out the research at MTs Miftahul Ulum Ngawen Blora on 12th February 2015. The number of population is 36 students from one class. The writer takes all population of seventh students. In this research, the writer uses a test as the instrument in collecting data, the number of items is 20 and the time allotment is 45 minutes. In analyzing the data, the writer uses statistical method in the form of mean. The writer puts the students’ score reached into the category. It is intended to know the quantitative and qualitative distribution of the students’ scores. So, the students’ mastery of reading can be known. The result of the study shows that the students who get very good category are 20 students, the students who get good category are 9 students, the students who get fair category are 4 students, the students who get poor category are 2 students and there is 1 student who gets fail category. The mean score of the mastery of reading is 76.8. So, it can be concluded that the students’ mastery of reading of the seventh year students of MTs Miftahul Ulum Ngawen Blora in academic year 2014/20015 is good.
