Abstract
Martyani Lantari. No. 14PSC01633. The Implementation of Multiple Game Strategy to Improve Beginning Reading (A Classroom Action Research to the First Grade Students of SDN I Gondang, Purwantoro District, Wonogiri Regency in Semester II in Academic Year 2015/2016). Thesis. Language Education Study Program, Graduate Program, University of Widya Dharma Klaten, 2016. This research aims at knowing whether beginning reading ability can be improved by using multiple game strategy to the first grade students of SDN I Gondang, Purwantoro district, Wonogiri regency in semester II in academic year 2015/2016. The kind of the research is classroom action research, which consists of three cycles. This research uses qualitative approach by action research planning through four steps by spiral model, namely: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The data of research are in the form of the process of implementing multiple game strategy in beginning reading in grade I of SDN I Gondang at a) initial step, b) ordering step, and c) final step which are collected by 1) observation, 2) field note, 3) test, and 4) interview. The result of reseach shows that multiple game strategy can improve beginning reading ability of the first grade students of SDN I Gondang Purwantoro which covers: 1)The mean of learning beginning reading in cycle I is 74.38; 2) The result of teaching and learning of the result of teaching and learning beginning reading in cycle II improves, that is 80.23; 3) The result of teaching and learning of beginning reading in cycle III is 85.57. Whereas, there is a significant improvement in the students’ mastery learning by multiple game strategy in teaching and learning of beginning reading. It can be seen from the percentage of mastery learning of beginning reading, namely 61.90% becomes 67% in cycle I, 85.71% in cycle II, and 95.23% in cycle III. The conclusion of the research is that there is an improvement in beginning reading ability by implementing multiple game strategy; the mean of pretest is 61.16, which improves to 74.38 in cycle I, 80.23 in cycle II, and 85.57 in cycle III.
