Abstract

Geography Education Study Program, Social study education departement, the Faculty of Teaching training and education,, University of Widya Dharma Klaten, Thesis: “:"EXPLORATION STUDY ON THE USE OF NATURAL STONE AS STONE ORNAMENTS INDUSTRY OF CANDIREJO VILLAGE SUBDISTRICT SEMIN GUNUNGKIDUL REGENCY". Thesis This study aim at: (1) Knowing the exploration of natural stone in the Candirejo village. (2) Knowing the process of production of natural stone become stone ornaments in the Candirejovillage (3) Knowing the marketing of products of stone ornaments in the Candirejo village. This study is descriptive study, it uses a qualitative approach. The subject of this study is determined by purposive or aims. The subjects of this study is artisan of stone ornaments in Candirejo village, subdistrict Semin, GunungKidul regency; owner of stone ornaments industry in Candirejo village, subdistrict Semin, GunungKidul Regencyand the stone miners in Candirejo village, subdistrictSemin, GunungKidul Regency. Data is collected by observation, interview and documentation. The data analysis uses qualitative descriptive analysis; it is data reduction, data presentation and conclusions. The results of this study showed that (1) the potential amount of limestone reserves in the Candirejo village is 3.400.000 m3, with a density of 1.7 tons of limestone / m3 so the limestone reserves is 13.600.000 tons. If every day there is 20 trucks of limestone with a capacity of 5 ton/ truck, with the effectiveness of mining is 60%, it is predicted that the mining can be done for 60 years. The miners in the Candirejo village did not use a safety device but the miners use manual or simple tool, it is not harmful for small-scaleminers that generally have less attention of their personal safety factor. The conveyances provided in this research area is sufficient so the artisans of stone have not difficulty in taking the raw materials and deposit or sent stone ornaments to the consumers. Besides that the road conditions in this research area is quite good and some roads have been in the asphalt, so it can conclude that facilities of transportation are needed to support industrial activity is always readily available and always there. The economic value of limestone mining results in general at the Candirejo village sell the mining results in the form of stone ornaments and stone paste. (2) The process of production of stone ornaments include: a) excavation. b) cutting and cleavage raw materials. c) copying the mal design on the stone. d) carving. e) finishing. (3) the marketing of products is easy, the production of stone ornaments sell in the villages at the subdistrict Semin and various cities include solo, Yogyakarta, Jakarta, Surabaya, Bali and Makassar
