Abstract

FITRININGSIH, N0. 1011202617, English Education Study Program, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Widya Dharma University, Klaten, 2015.Thesis: Improving Vocabulary Mastery Using Flashcard to the Sixth Grade Students of SD Dengok II, Dengok , Playen, Gunungkidul in Academic Year 2014/2015. This research is intended to answer the questions which become the problems of the study. The problems of study are: 1) What are the teacher’s activities in improving vocabulary mastery using flashcards of the sixth grade students of SD Dengok II, Dengok, Playen, Gunungkidul in academic year 2014/2015, 2) How is the students’ response to their teacher’s activities in improving vocabulary mastery by using flashcards?, 3) Can the use of flashcards improve the students vocabulary mastery of the sixth grade students of SD Dengok II, Dengok, Playen, Gunungkidul in academic year 2014/2015. In this study the researcher uses the classroom action research. It consists of two parts namely, cycle 1 and cycle 2. In each part it is discussed, planning, acting, observing and reflecting. In this research, the data are the result of observation, the interview and test. The sources of the data are: event, informant, and document. The techniques of collecting the data are observation, interview and test. In analyzing the data the writer uses descriptive qualitative method. The results of the data analysis are as follows: 1) the teacher asked the students to wroth the words of family on the book which were provided by her, to pronounce, to spell the word of family, profession and animal. The teacher asked the students to pronounce the word by themselves and corrected by the teacher, to follow the teacher’s pronunciation and to do the task about the word of family, profession and animals.2) the students attended the class actively. It can be seen follows: When the teacher asked the students to write the word, to pronounce the word, to spell the word, when the teacher asked the student to imitate the teacher’s pronunciation about the word, and to do task about family, profession and animal, the students did it happily. 3) Can the flashcard improve the students’ vocabulary mastery? It can be seen from the students’ score. The result is using flash card to the sixth grade students of SD Dengok II, Dengok, Playen, Gunungkidul, it is proven with the students’ mean score which improves from 66.92 in pre observation, to 81.67 in cycle one and 93.89 in cycle two.
