Abstract

ISTIBROTO SETIAWATI, NO: 1011202616, English Education Study Program, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Widya Dharma University Klaten, 2016. Thesis: A Descriptive Study on the Mastery of Reading of the Seventh Year Students of SMPN 2 Wedi Klaten in Academic Year of 2015/2016. The aim of thesis is to describe the reading mastery of the seventh year students of SMPN 2 Wedi Klaten in academic year of 2015/2016. The problem of thesis is “How is the reading mastery of the seventh year students of SMPN 2 Wedi Klaten in academic year of 2015/2016?” In the research, the writer takes the seventh year students of SMPN 2 Wedi in academic year of 2015/2016 as the population. The number of it is 281 students consisting of eight classes, they are from class 7A 35 students, class 7B 36 students, class 7C 36 students, class 7D 34 students, class 7E 36 students, class 7F 34 students, class 7G 34 students, and class 7H is 36 students. Therefore, the researcher takes 48 students as the sample. She uses proportional random sampling to determine the sample. She takes 6 students for each class. In collecting data, the writer gives the test that consists of 20 items in the form of multiple choices. Before the writer gives the test to the subject of study the writer must do the try out first. The aim is to know whether the test is valid and reliable or not. The writer takes the try out to the seventh year students of class B in SMPN 4 Klaten in academic year 2015/2016. In analyzing the data, the writer uses statistical technique by implementing in the form of mean and table to describe the reading mastery of the seventh year students of SMPN 2 Wedi Klaten in academic year of 2015/2016. After analyzing the data, the writer gets the result of the study. It shows that the mean is 2.67. It is classified into B- and it is categorized into good category. Finally the writer draws the conclusion that the mastery of reading of the seventh year students of SMPN 2 Wedi Klaten in academic year of 2015/2016 is Good.
