Abstract
FERRY ARISKA PURNAMA, Student Number.1111202688. English Education Study Program,Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Widya Dharma University, Klaten, 2016. Undergraduate Thesis: “A Descriptive Study On The Seventh Year Students’ Reading Mastery of SMP N 2 Jatinom Klaten in Academic Year of 2016/2017” The problem of the study is: How is the reading mastery of the seventh year students of SMP N 2 Jatinom in the academic year 2016/2017. The aim of the study is to describe the students’ mastery of reading ofthe seventh year students of SMP N 2 Jatinom in the academic year 2016/2017. The research was done in the first semester of the academic year of 2016/2017 in SMP N 2 Jatinom Klaten. The subject of the research is the seventh year students of SMP N 2 Jatinom Klaten in 2016/2017. The number of population is 272 students that are divided into eight classes. This study takes 40 students as the sample. Using proportional random sampling. This study,uses multiple choice test. Data analysis uses the statistical method, which goingthe form of mean and table. The finding showed find that the students who gained very good mark was 22 students or 55%, good mark was 16 students or 40%, and fair mark was 2 student or 5%, and there wasno one who gained poor and fail mark. The total mark of the students’ mastery is 3125 for 40 students. The mean score was 78.12 and it was categorized into good category. So it could be concluded that the reading mastery of the seventh year students of SMP N 2 Jatinom Klaten in academic year 2016/2017 was good.
