Abstract
ASHARY PANDU KHARISMAWAN, 2111200004, English Education Study Program, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Widya Dharma University, Klaten, 2025. S-1 Thesis: Improving Students’ Writing Capability by Using Contextual Teaching and Learning Method Assisted by News Articles for the Eleventh Year Students at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Klaten in Academic Year 2024/2025 The aim of this study is to answer the question which becomes the problem of this study “How to improve students’ writing capability by using contextual teaching and learning method assisted by news articles for the eleventh year students at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Klaten in academic year of 2024/2025?”. This study is qualitative descriptive research. The data in this study are the result of observation in the form of observation note, the result of teacher and student’s interview, the test the students had done and its results, and the field note data that contained the process of improving writing capability using contextual teaching and learning assisted by news articles. The sources of data are the English teacher and the students. The data were collected through observation, interview, test, and documentation. The writer used Classrom Action Research (CAR) steps to analyze the data, namely planning, action, observation, and reflection before drawing conclusion. After analyzing the data, the writer found aspects of improving students writing capability by using contextual teaching and learning assisted by news articles on learning process. The learning steps are done by the teacher. They consist of opening, main activity, and closing. The ways of improving students’ writing capability by using contextual teaching and learning method assisted by news article media are done by doing two instructional cycles, such as cycle 1 and cycle 2, involving students’ independence and critical thinking.
