Abstract

DINDHA SANDRA MAYKASARI, 1211202761. English Education Study Program, Teacher Training Education Faculty, Widya Dharma University, Klaten, 2016. Thesis: A CASE STUDY OF TEACHING AND LEARNING READING OF THE EIGHTH YEAR STUDENTS OF SMP N 3 JATINOM KLATEN IN ACADEMIC YEAR OF 2015/2016. This thesis aims at knowing the process of teaching and learning reading text, the obstacles found by English teacher in teaching and learning reading, the solutions of the teacher to solve obstacles in teaching and learning reading text of the eighth year students of SMP N 3 Jatinom Klaten in Academic Year of 2015/2016. The strategy of this study is qualitative. While the data are the activities of the teaching and learning reading process, the atmosphere of teaching and learning reading of the eighth year students of SMP N 3 Jatinom Klaten. The sources of the data are event, informant, and the document which are related with teaching and learning reading. The techniques of collecting the data are observation, interview and documentation concerning with teaching and learning reading text of the eighth year students of SMP N 3 Jatinom Klaten in Academic Year of 2015/2016. The technique of analyzing the data is qualitative method. After analyzing the data, the writer finds: 1) the process of teaching and learning reading text consists of the teacher’s preparation, material, the activity, media, and evaluation in teaching and learning reading text of the eighth year students of SMP N 3 Jatinom Klaten in Academic Year of 2015/2016; 2) the obstacles found in teaching and learning reading of the eighth year students of SMP N 3 Jatinom Klaten are: there are some students who do not bring the textbook, there are some students who make a chat and joke, and the students are difficult to comprehend the text, which is caused by their limited vocabulary; 3) The solutions to overcome the obstacles in teaching and learning reading of the eighth year students of SMP N 3 Jatinom Klaten are: the teacher asks the students who do not bring textbook to join with other students, she reprimands and gives question for the students who make situation in the class crowded, the teacher asks students to open their dictionary and memorize the meaning of the word, and she also gives the task to the students to identify the text at home.
