Abstract

The aim of the research is to analyze whether there was a significant ccrrelatimi between mastery of preposition and writing of the seventh year students of SMPN 2 Karanganom Klaten. In collecting the data, the researchers gave the test consisting of 20 items in the form of multiple choice. The population was the seventh year students of SMPN 2 Karanganom Klaten in academic year of 2012/2013, totaling 164 students. The researchers took 30 students as the sample by applying proportional random sampling technique. In analyzing the data, the researchers used statistical technique by applying the Pearson Prod- uct moment formula to know the correlation between the mastery of preposition and writing. The research findings showed that the coefficient of correlation between the mastery of preposition and writing was 0.679. This coefficient of correlation is greater than the r table that is 0.463 for I % level of significance and at 5% level of significance is 0.361 by the number of 30 respondents. It means that the hypothesis stating that there is a significant correlation between the mastery pf preposition and writing of the seventh year students od SMPN 2 Karanganom Klaten was accepted. The researchers condluded that there is a signifi- cant correlation between the mastery of preposition and writing of the seventh year students of SMPN 2 Key word: Correlation study, Preposrtic, Writing
