Abstract
ARIF SYARIFUDDIN,2020. Student No. 1411202922. English Education Study Program. Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Widya Dharma University, Klaten, 2021. Undergraduate Thesis: A Descriptive Study on the Mastery of Character Based Writing of the Eighth Year Students of SMP Karya Dharma Veteran Boyolali in Academic Year of 2020/2021. The problem of this study is “How is the mastery of character based writing of the eighth year students of SMP Karya Dharma Veteran Boyolali in academic year of 2020/2021”. This study aims to describe and to integrate the students’ mastery of character based writing of the eighth year students of SMP Karya Dharma Veteran Boyolali in academic year of 2020/2021. In this research, the researcher takes the eighth year students of SMP Karya Dharma Veteran Boyolali in academic year of 2020/2021as the population. The number of population is 150 students divided into five classes. In this study, the researcher takes 30 students by proportional random sampling. For getting the data, the researcher gives an essay test. The researcher instructs the students to make descriptive text about person which is done within 45 minutes. The researcher analyzes the data by using qualitative and quantitative analysis. The overall achievement of students writing skill is very good. The students who get very good score are 21 students or 70%, good score are 9 students or 30% and there is no student who gets fail score. The total score of the students’ mastery of character based writing is 2525, the mean is 84.1, and it is categorized into very good category. Finally, the researcher draws the conclusion that the mastery of character based writing of the eighth year students of SMP Karya Dharma Veteran Boyolali in academic year of 2020/2021is very good.
